Weekly updates for Student Family Housing residents:
Residence Office and Admissions.
This a friendly reminder that the office is closed during the pandemic to reduce health risks to residents and staff. We are still here to help, but for the health and safety of all, please do not come to our offices unless instructed to do so by a staff member. Office staff will not be answering the door unless an appointment has been arranged. For assistance please call the Residence Office on 416-978-8304 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
For eligibility concerns or lease information please contact the Admissions at 416-978-8049 or email@example.com.
If you need to deliver cheques, forms and notices please use the secure drop box outside of the Residence Office – suite 102. If you are not sure please call or email ahead of time. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this health emergency and stay safe.
Security. Our Security staff continue to be available 24/7 via phone at 416-729-1592. If your security concern requires any type of follow up, please leave the guard a phone number to contact you, to avoid face-to-face interactions where possible.
Residence Reminders and Updates
State of Emergency Reminder (via utoronto.ca). The Province of Ontario has declared a state of emergency in response to increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province. As of Thursday, Jan. 14 2020, at 12:01 a.m., the government has issued a stay-at-home order requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for permitted purposes or activities, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for work where the work cannot be done remotely.
As U of T already had significant control measures in place and the majority of activities are being conducted remotely, the implications of the stay-at-home order are limited for the university.
At U of T, the following changes are in effect:
- All indoor and outdoor sport and recreation facilities will be closed (virtual programming will continue to be available)
- Indoor public events or social gatherings should not be held except with members of the same household
- Outdoor events or social gatherings are limited to a maximum of five people and participants should practise physical distancing and/or mask wearing
For more information about the university’s response to COVID-19, please visit the UTogether page.
Smoke Alarm Reminder. If you are cooking in your apartment, please take care to make sure the stove is always supervised and turned off when leaving the unit. If you happen to trigger the smoke detector, please clear smoke out of your apartment by opening windows and the balcony door. Do not open the door to the hallway. Doing so can trigger the central fire alarm, causing a disturbance to the community, and more importantly, causing emergency services to needlessly come on-site.
30 Charles Door Sensor. This week, the interior lobby door of 30 Charles St. West was upgraded to a wave-activated sensor. When leaving the lobby, residents will be required to wave a hand to allow the doors to the vestibule to open, whereas they currently open automatically. Clear signage is posted, but please remind all family members that this change is coming, so to avoid people bumping the door in the expectation of it automatically opening. The entrance function, activated by the fob reader, remains the same.
Phishing Scams. It has come to our attention that during lockdown there has been an increase in phishing, both at the university and beyond. The Ontario government and the University have resources regarding this.
Rent schedule. In order to make this easier to follow and avoid having to pay an extra month’s rent, please use this chart as a guide:
Submit by January 31st to move out on March 31st
Submit by February 28th to move out on April 30th
Submit by March 31st to move out on May 31st
