In order to be eligible to be considered for a transfer, you need to have lived at Charles Street for at least 12 months, AND your family is growing or has grown since moving in.  

**Please Note!  If you choose to accept a transfer to a new apartment, you will be signing a Non-Smoking Lease, which will make it mandatory for all family members and visitors to keep the apartment and balcony smoke-free.  

Conditions of Transfers

We do not transfer between apartments of the same type (e.g. from a two bedroom to another two bedroom), nor do we transfer on the basis of noise, construction, cockroaches, preference for south-facing or north-facing, preference for high floor or low floor, and more.

To request a transfer, you must download the Transfer Form, or pick it up at the Residence Office. Complete the form and return it to the Residence Office on the ground floor of 35 Charles Street. Note that proof of pregnancy is required.

Once we have your application, it typically takes a minimum of 10-12 months before we are able to offer you a transfer. When we are getting relatively close to your name being near the top of the transfer list, we will arrange for the Residence Office to set up a housekeeping inspection.

This inspection and your rent payments & history will determine whether you will qualify for a transfer.

If your housekeeping standards do not meet the level required, your application for transfer will be cancelled outright. They will be looking to ensure that your apartment is in good condition, that it is being kept clean, that it is not infested, and they will do a rental payment history check.

Rent must be consistently submitted in full on the 1st of each month. Repeated late payment of rent will cause you to be refused a transfer.

If your apartment and rental history are approved, then we will contact you once we have an appropriate apartment to offer you.

You will have an opportunity to view the apartment and decide if you accept the offer. Keep in mind that we will only offer you two transfer units, so if you know in advance that you are not available to move at a certain time, or that you have specific preferences and this unit does not match your needs, do not go to see it. If you go to see it, you will only have one more apartment offer and then we will remove your application or start you from the bottom of the list.
